This morning, I got my hepatitis results back from the doctor and I tested negative for both Hep B and Hep C (which is what we expected). My calcium levels were slightly elevated and my white blood count was slightly low. Neither of these issues seemed to be of concern with my doctor.
With the test results in, and negative, we are moving forward with the liver biopsy. It has been scheduled for next Thursday, April 16. I have to be at the hospital around 9:00am and I think that the procedure is scheduled for 11:30am. I am pretty nervous about the whole thing because I don't get to be put under. One of the requirements of the procedure is that I am awake so that they can force me to take deep breaths during each pass with the needle to avoid puncturing my lung. Also, since the liver is a very vascular organ I have to lay in place for 2-3 hours afterwards so that they can make sure that there is no hemorrhaging of the liver. Sounds like so much fun, right? Thankfully, Dave has taken the day off from work and will be able to be there with me the whole day. I'm not sure if he can be in the room with me but I definitely plan on asking. He has always been a calming source for me and I doubt that this would be any different.
I really have NO idea what to expect in terms of an outcome. The rheumatologist in Saginaw thought that I may have auto-immune hepatitis and that is something that would be reflected in the biopsy results. All in all, I am just trying to stay positive and and be excited about the possibility of finally having some answers.
Your thoughts and prayers are always welcome and I thank each of you for the support that you have given me over the last months. I cherish all of you and couldn't have gotten through this without you.
Love and hugs,
Melissa

I will be thinking of ya hun! Hope everything turns out for the best. See you this weekend at church maybe.
Smooches!
Melissa, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers Thursday! When I had a procedure done on my heart, I had to be awake as well and lay perfectly still through the whole thing. And they actually ended up having to do it twice in the same day, which was about 5 hours total. Afterwards, I, too, had to lay still for several hous with a sandbag on my groin since that is where they had entered my artery and wanted to make sure the bleeding stopped. Overall, it wasn't bad!!! Try not to worry too much. They should give you something to "relax" and it honestly makes the time pass quickly.
