A New Year

I know that it has been far too long since my last post. I apologize for that and I have no good excuse other than I just haven't done it.

First, let me start by saying Happy New Year! I can't believe that we are already 2/3 of the way in to January. This winter has been going by quickly and I am so happy about that. I absolutely hate the cold and snow. I changed my blog template to green to continue my "Think Spring" mantra.

Christmas was good and busy as usual. Dave's family Christmas' are always easy because he still has parents who are married. Mine, on the other hand, are crazy and all over the place. However, now that my dad is in Georgia we don't get to spend any time with him over the holidays and that does made me sad. Thankfully, he has a new wife who I know takes wonderful care of him. She is a wonderful woman and I am so glad that he has once again found happiness.

On January 12th, Dave and I once again started doing Weight Watchers. My starting weight was 168 (yes, I'm putting it out there) and ideally I would like to get down to 135-140. My first actual meeting was on Janauary 15 and I was down to 167.6. I have my next weigh in tomorrow night. I have been doing VERY well with my points for each day but have been sick since last Tuesday and so I haven't been exercising like I want to. I am really hoping to hit my 6 pound weight loss goal (for the doctor) by mid-February.

Today is the second day in a row that I am home sick. Last Tuesday I started having a very sore throat and earaches. I actually spent last Wednesday home sick too. I thought I was starting to get better but yesterday morning was awful so I finally went to the walk-in clinic. I got a diagnosis of strep throat and fluid build-up in my ears. To top it all off, I suddenly now have a cold or sinus infection in addition to the strep throat. I got a prescription antibiotic from the doctor and orders to take Sudafed and Mucinex. At this point, I will do whatever is necessary to feel better. I would rather be sick now that next month since we have so much going on.

On February 3rd, we leave for ORLANDO! Dave, myself and several of my co-workers are going to Florida to spend several days before the conference I am attending (National Conference on The First-Year Experience). The conference begins Saturday night and we will be arriving on Tuesday mid-morning. I am SO looking forward to some sunshine and warm temps. I honestly thing that this crappy, cloudy, cold Michigan weather sends me into a bit of a depression. But as Dave reminded me it will be mid-February when I get home and then it is only a couple of weeks until March. To me, March = spring!!

The weekend after we return from Florida (on Valentine's Day, actually) Dave and I are in a wedding. Our friends Kyle and Jilian have asked us to stand up for them and we are very honored that they want us to be a part of their special day. I have a feeling that it is going to be a very fun event.

Needless to say, we have a lot on our plates right now. I usually enjoy being busy. It helps the time go by quickly and I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring. Did I already mention that?

I will try to be better about updating the blog. As we continue Weight Watchers we can use all the help and support we can get so I will try to give a weekly update on our progress.

We hope that you are having a wonderful start to the new year and we wish you all very best that 2009 has to offer!

Love and hugs,
Melissa & Dave
